Expect Respect
We encourage everyone in Waterlooville Baptist Church including volunteers to make every effort to meet the Code of Behaviour which sets clear expectations. These serve to model Christian conduct, reduce the possibilities of positions of trust being abused and helps to protect church members and volunteers from unnecessary suspicion.
Waterlooville Baptist Church believes everyone whatever their age, gender, sexual orientation, background, culture should always be treated with respect and dignity.
Waterlooville Baptist Church safeguarding policy and guidelines [2025] can be found on our website which has additional guidance for all those working with children and/or adults at risk.
-
Treat everyone with dignity and respect.
-
Use age and ability appropriate language and tone of voice. Be aware of your body language and the effect you may have on others.
-
Listen well to everyone. Listen to what is being spoken and how it is said. At the same time, observe the individual’s body language to better understand what is being said.
-
Be aware of any physical contact you may have with a child or adult at risk and record it when necessary. For instance, if you need to stop a fight, administer First Aid, give a hug to someone in distress, or protect yourself or others from danger.
-
Do not make sexually suggestive comments even in 'fun'.
-
Do not make offensive or inappropriate comments regarding a person’s appearance, what they wear, abilities, or sexuality.
-
We will seek to empower others, avoiding exclusivity, but rather actively seeking to include the marginalised in church activities generally.
-
We will express views openly, courteously, and respectfully in all our communications.
-
We will observe confidentiality when matters are deemed confidential or where they concern specific members of the congregation both inside and outside church.
-
Keep a record of any significant incidents or concerns on a Safeguarding Incident Form. Anyone who witnesses an incident or responds to it in any way should record the details and sign and date the form.
If you become aware of any breaches of this code within Waterlooville Baptist Church, you should discuss the incident with your Deacons, Designated Person for Safeguarding (DPS) or Minister as soon as possible.
