1st Waterlooville Girls' Brigade

The Girls' Brigade is an International Christian uniformed organisation for girls of all ages.
We offer girls an opportunity to meet friends, have fun as they work and play together under trained leaders; learn new skills, take part in exciting new activities such as residential holidays and service to the community. Our Company is part of Solent District and GBEW (England and Wales)

Under the "Safe to Grow" policies of both the church and GBEW, all leaders and helpers over the age of 16 are DBS checked.

Our Company meets on a Tuesday evening at 6 pm in term time. We have various age groups:

n-vestigate   4 - 7 years   (previously Explorers)
n-gage         7 - 11 years  (previously Juniors)
n-counta    10 - 14 years  (previously Seniors)
n-spire       13 - 18+years (previously Brigaders)

Activities

Our activities vary according to age and all sections are now using the new badgework recently developed for Girls' Brigade for the 21st century. Each term the girls can gain a different badge. The badge work may be based on Bible stories, Christian teaching or general life skills. Girls can gain extra badges for regular "company attendance" and a "Bible badge" for regular attendance on a Sunday. An award is also gained when a girl is promoted from one section to the next.

In the Summer Term we have less formal activities such as visiting Jubilee Park or scavenger hunts, and there is often a District fun event too, for example a day out swimming at Romsey Rapids.

Once a year we have a Residential Event for the older girls when we go away together and additionally in October we have a 'Day Out and SleepOver' for the whole company at the Church. There are also opportunities to join the other Youth groups with their activities such as Sailing Camp, Soul Survivor, Big Church Day Out etc.

The teenagers may also be put forward for Young Leader Training and have opportunities to work with younger girls throughout the company. Young Leader Training comprises of three levels (Foundation, Intermediate and advanced) which are undertaken over three years. The girls are also supported to complete their Queen's Award if they wish.

Costs

Subscriptions are £20 per term, which includes the annual subscription charges payable to GBEW Central Office and Solent District GB.

We ask new girls to pay £2 per week for the first five weeks, on the 6th week the enrolment form should be completed and you should then pay the balance of the first terms subs (up to £20) together with the uniform hire fee of £15 per year (to cover polo shirt and hoodie).
